This is the best barbecue sauce ever! I usually don’t like barbecue sauce, until I made this one. I have tried several other recipes, and bottled sauces and nothing compares to this sauce. It has a bit of spice, tang, and sweetness all wrapped into one delicious mouthful. We usually use it on ribs but we have used it on chicken as well.
Since I am gluten-free, I use the Paleochef ketchup. I highly recommend using it because it has a great depth of flavor that regular ketchup does not have. I often double the sauce recipe because it is so good!
Tanya’s Barbecue Sauce
Yield 1½ cups
1 onion, peeled and finely chopped
2 Tbsp + ¼ cup olive oil
2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
¼ cup distilled white vinegar
½ cup water
2 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp Dijon mustard
½ tsp pepper
1½ tsp salt
¼ tsp cayenne pepper
1¼ cup ketchup **
2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1½ tsp liquid smoke flavoring
In a medium-size stockpot on medium-high heat, sauté the onions in 2 Tbsp olive oil until lightly browned. Add the rest of the ingredients and simmer on low for half an hour stirring intermittently.
Once it has thickened a bit, remove it from the heat to cool. You can use the sauce right away or store it in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
**Paleochef Ketchup gluten-free, no sugar, no junk
Ribs
2½ lbs. Pork spareribs, breast bone removed, and thin membrane on the back removed
Salt and pepper
Heat the oven to 300℉.
Place the ribs on a baking sheet or in an ovenproof pan. Season both sides with salt and pepper. Cover with foil and bake for 1½ hours. Remove the ribs from the oven.
Heat the barbecue to medium-high heat.
Brush the ribs with barbecue sauce and place them on the grill. Quickly grill the ribs on both sides. Just enough to give them a little char. This will only take a couple of minutes.
Remove the ribs from the barbecue and slice each rib along the side of the next bone, that way each rib has a nice amount of meat on it. Brush the ribs with additional sauce and serve. I put the extra sauce in a bowl next to the ribs for those who like them super saucy.
Just Salt It, and enjoy!
