In 2018, we had the privilege of remodeling our home. It was such a fun process. It took six months to complete, but it was so worth the time, effort, and cost. We started with a Tuscan look in our house. It had lots of browns, tans, and golds. We since changed it to a modern Tuscan fusion with lots of grays, whites, and blacks. We are so proud of it and appreciate it every day.
Through this process, I learned so much about paint, tile, stone, and overall design. We hired an interior designer, Lacey Dremann of First Impression, who is a family friend of ours to help guide us in our decision-making processes. Hiring an expert to help put things together made it much easier to narrow down our ideas and preferences. I know not everyone has the opportunity to hire an interior designer. I would suggest, at the very least, to read books on interior design and to look at some magazines for ideas and inspiration. This will help you to pull it all together.
The kitchen design was my number one priority. I was extremely picky about how I wanted it laid out, which was very close to how it was originally. I went through every finish we thought of choosing with a fine-tooth comb making sure it met all of my needs visually and mechanically. My appliances were also essential. I knew what my expectations were and found the perfect ones that met those needs.
Doing a lot of research ahead of time makes it a little simpler. This allows you to have some clear ideas of what you do and don’t want when you arrive at the store. It can get overwhelming if you show up without doing some homework first.
All in all, we wanted our home to have clean lines and beautiful finishes, with an overall relaxing and warm feeling. My husband and I love spending time together, and there is nothing better than spending it in our home.
Some of my favorite interior design magazines are Dwell, Luxe, and Architectural Digest. Sunset also has some fun home makeover ideas and delicious recipes and vacation ideas as well.
